The COVID-19 pandemic means that holiday shoppers are more likely to opt for practical gifts over luxury purchases, according to new research. To help consumers stretch their budgets, the Automobile Club of Southern California is offering gift memberships at a special reduced rate along with a bonus gift that shoppers can keep for themselves or give to someone else.
The marketing research firm Morning Consult surveyed consumers in September about their holiday spending plans and found that 73 percent of them are purchasing either fewer luxury items as gifts compared to other years, or no luxury items at all.
An Auto Club gift membership costs just $52 this holiday season, and the normal $20 one-time enrollment fee will not be charged. In addition, those purchasing new gift memberships (not gift renewals) will receive their choice of a $20 Amazon, Shell or Visa gift card, or a gift card for a one-pound box of See’s Candies®.
“An Auto Club membership is always a great practical gift, and this year it is a better value than ever with the bonus gift included and the waived enrollment fee,” said Jeff Zacek, the Auto Club’s vice president for marketing and product management.
The Auto Club Classic membership includes four vehicle service calls per year, which can include tows of up to seven miles. Members can also conduct many vehicle-related DMV transactions in Auto Club branches.
Other member benefits include AAA maps and TourBook® Travel Guides, free identity theft protection, Westways® magazine, and free referrals to AAA-inspected Approved Auto Repair facilities throughout Southern California. Auto Club members get discounts and rewards at thousands of retail locations, restaurants, car rental facilities, lodgings and travel providers such as Pleasant Holidays, most major cruise lines and tour companies.
Auto Club members have access to some of the most competitive auto and home insurance rates offered through the Interinsurance Exchange of the Auto Club, as well as life, watercraft, renters and many other types of insurance. The Auto Club’s full-service travel agencies at each branch make vacation planning easy.
