Reports of plentiful California gasoline supply heading into summer have stalled further price increases at most local gas stations, according to the Automobile Club of Southern California's Weekend Gas Watch. The retail statewide average is $3.74 a gallon for regular unleaded, two cents higher than last Thursday.
The average price of self-serve regular gasoline in the Los Angeles-Long Beach area is $3.76 per gallon, which is unchanged from last week, 10 cents more than last month, and 69 cents higher than last year. In San Diego, the average price is $3.76, which is one cent more than last Thursday, 12 cents more than last month, and 72 cents higher than this time last year. On the Central Coast, the average price is $3.81, which is two cents higher than last week, 15 cents higher than last month, and 71 cents higher than last year. In Riverside, the average per-gallon price is $3.70, which is the same as last week, 11 cents higher than last month, and 70 cents more than at this time last year.
“The California Energy Commission is reporting the highest level of gasoline stocks in three months, and local refineries reportedly have completed their planned maintenance,” said Auto Club spokesman Jeffrey Spring. “Both those factors are good indicators that prices could reverse course and head back downward soon.”
The Weekend Gas Watch monitors the average price of gasoline. As of 9 a.m. on May 31, averages are:
