As a record 4.3 million Southern Californians start heading out of town for the Thanksgiving holiday, they will be paying about 30 cents less per gallon than a little over a month ago after some rapid price drops this week, according to the Automobile Club of Southern California's Weekend Gas Watch. The retail statewide average is $3.91 a gallon for regular unleaded, which is ten cents lower than last week.
The average price of self-serve regular gasoline in the Los Angeles-Long Beach area is $3.95 per gallon, which is down ten cents from last week, 22 cents lower than a month ago, and 29 cents higher than last year. In San Diego, the average price is $3.92, which is eight cents less than last Thursday, 20 cents less than last month, and 29 cents higher than last year. On the Central Coast, the average price is $4.03, which is seven cents lower than last week, 17 cents lower than last month, and 37 cents higher than last year. In Riverside, the average per-gallon price is $3.86, which is ten cents lower than last week, 24 cents lower than last month, and 29 cents higher than last year. In San Bernardino, the $3.91 average price is nine cents lower than last week, 22 cents lower than last month, and 28 cents higher than a year ago today.
“Eighty-five percent of Thanksgiving travelers will be taking road trips to their destinations, and when filling up for their getaways, most will be able to find regular unleaded for less than $3.60 a gallon,” said Auto Club spokesman Jeffrey Spring. “Based on rapid price drops in the Los Angeles wholesale gasoline market this week, we expect the price drops to continue as Thanksgiving approaches.”
