Auto Club: Gas Prices Move Up Slowly

CA GAS WATCH

After a sharp one-week spike earlier this month due to a major refinery fire in Northern California, Southern California gas prices moderately increased over the past seven days, according to the Auto Club’s Weekend Gas Watch. The average price for self-serve regular gasoline in California is $4.84, which is six cents higher than a week ago and 19 cents higher than a year ago today. The average national price is $3.16, which is the same as a week ago.

The average price of self-serve regular gasoline in the Los Angeles-Long Beach area is $4.78 per gallon, which is three cents more than last week and two cents less than last year. In San Diego, the average price is $4.79, which is three cents more than last week and two cents lower than this time last year.

On the Central Coast, the average price is $4.73, which is two cents higher than last week and the same as last year. In Riverside, the average per-gallon price is $4.66, which is four cents higher than last week and two cents lower than a year ago. In Bakersfield, the $4.66 average price is five cents higher than last week and eight cents higher than a year ago today.

“California refinery production of gasoline increased greatly over the past week, although inventories remain lower than this time last year, according to the Oil Price Information Service,” said Auto Club spokesperson Doug Shupe. “Gas prices in a few metro areas have dropped slightly in the last day or two, indicating this price spike could be ending.”

The Weekend Gas Watch monitors the average price of gasoline. As of 9 a.m. on Feb. 20, averages are:
