Gas prices stopped rising throughout most of Southern California in the last week and even dropped significantly among some major chains of gas stations, according to the Automobile Club of Southern California's Weekend Gas Watch. The retail statewide average is $4.09 a gallon for regular unleaded, which is unchanged from last week.

The average price of self-serve regular gasoline in the Los Angeles-Long Beach area is $4.10 per gallon, which is three cents lower than last week, 19 cents higher than last month, and 39 cents higher than last year. In San Diego, the average price is $4.09, which is unchanged from last Thursday, 22 cents higher than last month, and 40 cents higher than this time last year. On the Central Coast, the average price is $4.14, which is unchanged from last week, 25 cents higher than last month, and 41 cents higher than last year. In Riverside, the average per-gallon price is $4.05, which is one cent lower than last week, 22 cents higher than last month, and 41 cents higher than last year. In San Bernardino, the $4.05 average price is two cents lower than last week, 21 cents higher than last month, and 40 cents higher than a year ago today.

“In the last day or so we have seen significant price reductions of about 10 cents a gallon at Arco, Costco and Sam’s Club gas stations, which are typically among the lowest-priced stations in the area,” said Auto Club spokesman Jeffrey Spring. “More local refineries are coming back online and this has pushed down wholesale Los Angeles gasoline prices. We strongly encourage drivers to shop around for the lowest gas price near them using a tool such as the free AAA Mobile app.”

The Weekend Gas Watch monitors the average price of gasoline. As of 9 a.m. on May 9, averages are:
