A few Southern California gas stations are now charging less than $4 a gallon for regular unleaded after three straight weeks of price drops, according to the Auto Club’s Weekend Gas Watch. The average price for self-serve regular gasoline in California is $4.73, which is eight cents lower than a week ago and 27 cents lower than a year ago today. The average national price is $3.14, which is two cents lower than a week ago and 36 cents lower than on this date last year.
The average price of self-serve regular gasoline in the Los Angeles-Long Beach area is $4.71 per gallon, which is six cents lower than last week and 24 cents less than last year. In San Diego, the average price is $4.71, which is five cents lower than last week and 26 cents lower than this time last year.
On the Central Coast, the average price is $4.62, which is six cents less than last week and 43 cents lower than last year. In Riverside, the average per-gallon price is $4.54, which is nine cents less than last week and 33 cents lower than a year ago. In Bakersfield, the $4.66 average price is four cents lower than last week and 40 cents lower than a year ago today.
“According to Oil Price Information Service (OPIS) and the Energy Information Administration, West Coast refineries have increased their output to the highest levels in three months, which has boosted gas inventories,” said Auto Club spokesperson Doug Shupe. “However, OPIS also reports some unplanned and planned refinery maintenance is happening at a couple of Southern California refineries this week.”
