As the Christmas and New Year holidays approach, gas prices continue dropping throughout Southern California, according to the Automobile Club of Southern California's Weekend Gas Watch. The retail statewide average is $3.42 a gallon for regular unleaded, which is seven cents lower than last week.
The average price of self-serve regular gasoline in the Los Angeles-Long Beach area is $3.44 per gallon, which is seven cents lower than last week, 28 cents lower than last month, and 30 cents higher than last year. In San Diego, the average price is $3.41, which is seven cents lower than last Thursday, 28 cents lower than last month, and 29 cents higher than this time last year. On the Central Coast, the average price is $3.46, which is four cents lower than week, 27 cents lower than last month, and 28 cents higher than last year. In Riverside, the average per-gallon price is $3.31, which is nine cents lower than last week, 32 cents lower than last month, and 23 cents more than this time last year.
“Lower gas prices will put more money in consumers’ pockets for holiday gifts and for another record-breaking holiday travel season, when 8.7 million Southern Californians are expected to take to the road and skies for end-of-year vacations,” said Auto Club spokesman Jeffrey Spring. “We expect gas prices will continue to drop as we get closer to the holidays, barring any unforeseen event.”
The Weekend Gas Watch monitors the average price of gasoline. As of 9 a.m. on Dec. 13, averages are:
