(LOS ANGELES, Feb. 4, 2010) – Average gas prices dropped back below $3 a gallon in most areas of Southern California in recent days after three consecutive weeks of price drops, according to the Automobile Club of Southern California’s Weekend Gas Watch.
The average price of self-serve regular gasoline in the Los Angeles-Long Beach area is $2.995 per gallon, which is 3.3 cents less than last week, 2.2 cents less than last month, and 89 cents higher than last year. In San Diego, the price is $2.994, which is three cents less than last week’s price, four-tenths of one cent below last month, and 86 cents higher than last year. On the Central Coast, the average price is $3.040, down 3.6 cents from last week, down 2.4 cents from a month ago, and 85 cents above last year. In the Inland Empire, the average per gallon price is $2.982, which is 3.2 cents less than last week, 1.3 cents less than last month, and 87 cents more than last year.
“Fortunately, drivers are seeing some relief from the second-highest gas prices we’ve ever had at the beginning of the year – 2008 was the most expensive year ever,” said Auto Club spokesperson Jeffrey Spring. “But we’re still seeing prices that are 40 to 50 cents higher per gallon than they were at this time in 2007, which was the third most expensive February on record for unleaded fuel.”
