After increasing for a week, Southern California gas prices moved down as some travelers began making their way back home following the holiday, according to Automobile Club of Southern California's Weekend Gas Watch. The retail statewide average is $3.38 a gallon for regular unleaded, which is three cents lower from last week.
The average price of self-serve regular gasoline in the Los Angeles-Long Beach area is $3.41 per gallon, which is four cents lower than last week, 21 cents lower than last month, and 28 cents higher than last year. In San Diego, the average price is $3.36, which is five cents lower than last Thursday, 23 cents lower than last month, and 27 cents higher than this time last year. On the Central Coast, the average price is $3.42, which is four cents lower than last week, 20 cents lower than last month, and 28 cents higher than last year. In Riverside, the average per-gallon price is $3.29, which is three cents lower than last week, 23 cents lower than last month, and 23 cents more than at this time last year.
“Oil prices mostly fell last week, reaching their lowest level since the third quarter of 2017, as market observers have concerns that the global crude market is oversupplied,” said Auto Club spokesman Jeffrey Spring. “To reduce the oversupply of crude globally, OPEC and non-OPEC producers announced that beginning in 2019, they will reduce crude production for six months. This move could drive crude oil prices up, and in turn drive gas prices higher in the New Year.”
