Local gas prices continued dropping in the last week as holiday travelers returned from their trips, according to Automobile Club of Southern California's Weekend Gas Watch. The retail statewide average is $3.34 a gallon for regular unleaded, which is four cents lower from last week.
The average price of self-serve regular gasoline in the Los Angeles-Long Beach area is $3.38 per gallon, which is four cents lower than last week, 17 cents lower than last month, and 22 cents higher than last year. In San Diego, the average price is $3.33, which is four cents lower than last Thursday, 18 cents lower than last month, and 19 cents higher than this time last year. On the Central Coast, the average price is $3.41, which is one cent lower than last week, 14 cents lower than last month, and 25 cents higher than last year. In Riverside, the average per-gallon price is $3.25, which is four cents lower than last week, 19 cents lower than last month, and 15 cents more than at this time last year.
“Oil Price Information Service reported this morning that a major West Coast refiner has sold off excess supply on the ‘spot’ market where retail locations buy gasoline to resell,” said Auto Club spokesman Jeffrey Spring. “This is likely to continue the downward pressure on Southern California pump prices. However, unlike many other areas of the country, local drivers continue to pay prices that are higher than at this time last year.”
