A sharp drop in crude oil prices combined with near-full production at local refineries are continuing to push pump prices downward, according to the Automobile Club of Southern California's Weekend Gas Watch. The retail statewide average is $3.92 a gallon for regular unleaded, which is six cents lower than last week.
The average price of self-serve regular gasoline in the Los Angeles-Long Beach area is $3.90 per gallon, which is seven cents lower than last week, 22 cents lower than last month, and 14 cents higher than last year. In San Diego, the average price is $3.88, which is seven cents below last Thursday, 22 cents below last month, and 13 cents higher than this time last year. On the Central Coast, the average price is $3.97, which is seven cents less than last week, 19 cents lower than last month, and 17 cents higher than last year. In Riverside, the average per-gallon price is $3.84, which is seven cents lower than last week, 22 cents lower than last month, and 14 cents higher than last year. In San Bernardino, the $3.87 average price is seven cents lower than last week, 19 cents lower than last month, and 16 cents higher than a year ago today.
“Oil prices are dropping due to a surge in stockpiles and worries that worldwide demand will decline because of the trade dispute between the U.S. and China, and that is helping to drive down fuel prices around the country,” said Auto Club spokesman Jeffrey Spring. “Currently the cheapest stations in Southern California are selling regular unleaded for less than $3.40 a gallon, but there is plenty of room for prices to drop further. We encourage drivers to shop around for the best gas prices near them by using the free AAA Mobile app.”
