Southern California gas prices have dropped for more than a month and are now within a dime of the prices that drivers were paying this time last year in most areas, according to the Automobile Club of Southern California's Weekend Gas Watch. The retail statewide average is $3.85 a gallon for regular unleaded, which is seven cents lower than last week.
The average price of self-serve regular gasoline in the Los Angeles-Long Beach area is $3.83 per gallon, which is seven cents lower than last week, 24 cents lower than last month, and nine cents higher than last year. In San Diego, the average price is $3.81, which is seven cents below last Thursday, 25 cents below last month, and seven cents higher than this time last year. On the Central Coast, the average price is $3.93, which is four cents less than last week, 20 cents lower than last month, and 14 cents higher than last year. In Riverside, the average per-gallon price is $3.76, which is eight cents lower than last week, 25 cents lower than last month, and eight cents higher than last year. In San Bernardino, the $3.80 average price is seven cents lower than last week, 24 cents lower than last month, and nine cents higher than a year ago today.
“Despite the two oil tanker fires in the Middle East that occurred yesterday, oil prices are now more than 20 percent lower than they were a year ago at this time and California refineries are experiencing the highest productivity since November 2018, so we expect pump prices to continue dropping,” said Auto Club spokesman Jeffrey Spring. “We strongly recommend that motorists seek out gas stations charging less than $3.50 a gallon for regular unleaded in Los Angeles County, Orange County, Bakersfield, the Inland Empire and San Diego, and less than $3.80 a gallon in the Santa Barbara area.”
