Gas price averages set new all-time records in Los Angeles, Ventura and Bakersfield in the past week before backing down slightly, according to the Auto Club’s Weekend Gas Watch. The average price for self-serve regular gasoline in California is $4.70, which is one cent lower than last week and just a bit below the all-time record price of $4.71 reached last Saturday. The average national price is $3.38, which is down two cents from a week ago.
The average price of self-serve regular gasoline in the Los Angeles-Long Beach area is $4.70 per gallon, which is one cent lower than last week, 12 cents higher than last month, $1.54 higher than last year, and two cents lower than the all-time record price of $4.72 set last Saturday. In San Diego, the average price is $4.66, which is down one cent from last week, 12 cents higher than last month, $1.50 higher than last year, and seven cents below its all-time record price reached in 2012.
On the Central Coast, the average price is $4.64, which is one cent lower than last Thursday, 13 cents higher than last month, $1.44 higher than last year, and seven cents below the record. In Riverside, the average per-gallon price is $4.63, which is one cent lower than last Thursday, 13 cents higher than last month, $1.51 higher than last year and five cents below the record. In Bakersfield, the $4.65 average price is unchanged from last Thursday, 13 cents higher than last month, $1.53 higher than a year ago today and one cent lower than the record price reached on Monday.
“We expect prices to continue downward for the rest of the year provided no incidents affect supply, because this is traditionally the time of year with the lowest demand,” said Auto Club spokesman Jeffrey Spring. “Oil prices have backed down significantly in the last month and that should help to drive down pump prices.”
