Gas prices stopped dropping in most Southern California areas over the past week on mixed news of local supplies and an upturn in oil prices, according to the Automobile Club of Southern California's Weekend Gas Watch. The retail statewide average is $3.62 a gallon for regular unleaded, which is unchanged from last week.
The average price of self-serve regular gasoline in the Los Angeles-Long Beach area is $3.64 per gallon, which is unchanged from last week, three cents lower than last month, and 67 cents higher than last year. In San Diego, the average price is $3.62, which is also unchanged from last Thursday, five cents less than last month, and 67 cents higher than this time last year. On the Central Coast, the average price is $3.71, which is a penny lower than last week, three cents lower than last month, and 73 cents higher than last year. In Riverside, the average per-gallon price is $3.55, which is unchanged from last week, six cents lower than last month, and 66 cents more than at this time last year.
“California refineries reported a draw on their gasoline inventories in the last week, and oil prices have ticked back upward again,” said Auto Club spokesman Jeffrey Spring. “These factors have stopped local prices from dropping in most areas. So far from June 1 to Aug. 1 of this year, price averages are $3.69 for Los Angeles/Long Beach, $3.68 for San Diego and $3.75 for Santa Barbara – about 60 to 75 cents higher than at this time last year.”
The Weekend Gas Watch monitors the average price of gasoline. As of 9 a.m. on Aug. 2, averages are:
