Southern California gas prices have now dropped by about a dime from their peak 2018 levels in late May, according to the Automobile Club of Southern California's Weekend Gas Watch. The retail statewide average is $3.66 a gallon for regular unleaded, three cents lower than last Thursday.
The average price of self-serve regular gasoline in the Los Angeles-Long Beach area is $3.67 per gallon, which is three cents less than week, a dime lower than last month, and 74 cents higher than last year. In San Diego, the average price is $3.67, which is four cents less than last Thursday, nine cents less than last month, and 77 cents higher than this time last year. On the Central Coast, the average price is $3.75, which is two cents lower than last week, six cents lower than last month, and 76 cents higher than last year. In Riverside, the average per-gallon price is $3.62, which is four cents lower than last week, nine cents lower than last month, and 75 cents more than at this time last year.
“Local July Fourth holiday travelers will be paying about $1.50 less per tank fill-up than those who traveled over Memorial Day, but about $11 more per tank than those who traveled for last year’s Independence Day holiday, ,” said Auto Club spokesman Jeffrey Spring. “Despite the higher gas prices, July Fourth travel is expected to increase by more than 5 percent from last year to an all-time record number of 3.4 million Southern Californians.”
