Oil and local wholesale gasoline prices bounced back upward in the last week, leaving Southern California gas station prices at a standstill in most areas, according to the Automobile Club of Southern California's Weekend Gas Watch. The retail statewide average is $3.59 a gallon for regular unleaded, which is one cent lower than last week.
The average price of self-serve regular gasoline in the Los Angeles-Long Beach area is $3.62 per gallon, which is unchanged from last week, down two cents from last month, and is 61 cents higher than last year. In San Diego, the average price is $3.59, unchanged from last Thursday, three cents less than last month, and 60 cents higher than this time last year. On the Central Coast, the average price is $3.70, which is a penny lower than last week, a penny lower than last month, and 66 cents higher than last year. In Riverside, the average per-gallon price is $3.51, which is unchanged from last week, five cents lower than last month, and 57 cents more than at this time last year.
“Southern California gas prices are remarkably stable this year, staying within a range of 15-20 cents since mid-April,” said Auto Club spokesman Jeffrey Spring. “Unfortunately, these stable prices are at much higher levels than in the previous couple of years. The average gas price paid by motorists in Los Angeles was $2.79 in 2016 and $3.04 in 2017. This year to date, the average Los Angeles regular unleaded price is $3.57.”
