(LOS ANGELES – April 14, 2011) –Southern California drivers continue to get hammered at the gas pumps with the highest prices since August 2008 as local gas prices moved up by about a penny a day over the last week, according to the Automobile Club of Southern California’s Weekend Gas Watch.
The average price of self-serve regular gasoline in the Los Angeles-Long Beach area is $4.196 per gallon, which is 7.2 cents more than last week, 23 cents higher than last month, and $1.10 higher than last year. In San Diego, the price is $4.184, an increase of 7.2 cents over last week, 21 cents above last month, and $1.06 higher than last year. On the Central Coast, the average price is $4.224, up 7.5 cents from last week, 21 cents higher than a month ago, and $1.05 above last year. In the Inland Empire, the average per gallon price is $4.169, which is 7.2 cents higher than last week, 23 cents higher than last month, and $1.07 more than last year.

“At this time of year in 2008, Southern California gas prices were also going up by a penny a day – but on April 14, 2008, the average Los Angeles-Long Beach price was $3.77,” said Auto Club spokesperson Jeffrey Spring. “Prices in 2008 spiked to all-time records in late June, but in most other years since 2000, Southern California gas prices have peaked sometime in May.”
