Auto Club: Local Gas Prices Post Record One-Week Drop

(LOS ANGELES, Nov. 7, 2008) - Local gas prices took an unprecedented plunge over the past week, falling by nearly 30 cents in most areas - a drop of almost 10 percent - to their lowest levels of the year, according to the Automobile Club of Southern California's Weekend Gas Watch.
The average price of self-serve regular gasoline in the Los Angeles-Long Beach area is $2.730 per gallon, which is 28.9 cents less than last week, 81 cents lower than last month, and 50 cents under last year. In San Diego, the price is $2.685, which is 26.4 cents under last week's price, 86 cents below last month, and 56 cents lower than last year. On the Central Coast, the average price is $2.790, down 29.5 cents from last week, 84 cents below last month, and 59 cents below last year. In the Inland Empire, the average per gallon price is $2.669, which is 29.1 cents under last week, down 87 cents from last month, and 57 cents less than last year.
"These price drops are great news for consumers," said Auto Club spokesperson Jeffrey Spring. "But even with almost four solid months of decreases, our year-to-date average daily price paid for gasoline is still in the $3.70 to $3.80 range in most areas."
The Weekend Gas Watch monitors the average price of gasoline as of 12:01 a.m. Nov. 7:
