Most Southern California Cities' Gas Prices Below $3 for August, Says Auto Club

(LOS ANGELES, August 14, 2007) — For the third straight month, Southern California gas prices dipped downward, bringing averages below $3 a gallon for most Southland communities, according to the Automobile Club of Southern California monthly Fuel Gauge Report.

The Southern California August average price for regular self-serve gasoline is $2.912, a 14-cent drop from July 17 and 57 cents below the all-time record high of $3.486 set in May.

"Southern Californians who take out-of-state vacations this month probably won't notice much difference between the pump prices they pay at home and the ones at their destination. Most state gas price averages are between $2.60 and $2.90 right now," said Auto Club spokesperson Carol Thorp.

In California, the average price for August is $2.929, down 22 cents from $3.151 in July. The state's lowest average prices are in Anaheim and La Habra, where regular sells for $2.72. San Luis Obispo has Southern California's highest average at $3.163.

Nationally, the average price is $2.767, down 27 cents from July. South Carolina has the lowest average price, at $2.563.
