(LOS ANGELES, Oct. 11, 2006) —The average price of a gallon of gasoline continued plunging in most Southern California communities between September and October, according to the Automobile Club of Southern California monthly Fuel Gauge Report.
The Southern California October average price for regular self-serve gasoline is $2.634, compared to $3.021, September 15. Since August, the average price has dropped nearly 64 cents. The Southern California record high is $3.417, set on May 16.
“The price drop is due to a number of factors including the near $20 drop in the price of crude oil since July,” said Auto Club spokesperson Carol Thorp. “Coupled with seasonal lower demand, this trend has pushed retail prices lower, much to the relief of motorists.”
Statewide, the average price for October is $2.595, down from $2.95 in September. The lowest average price in the state is in Marysville, where regular is selling for $2.450. Santa Barbara reports the state’s highest average price at $2.959.
Nationally, the average price is $2.262, down from $2.613 in September. The state with the highest gas price average is Hawaii at $3.026. Missouri has the lowest average price of $2.049.
