(LOS ANGELES, Sept. 12, 2006) —The average price of a gallon of gasoline dropped by nearly a quarter in most Southern California communities between August and September, according to the Automobile Club of Southern California monthly Fuel Gauge Report.
The Southern California August average price for regular self-serve gasoline is $3.021, down from $3.271 on August 15. The Southern California record is $3.417, set on May 16.
“The price drop is due to a number of factors, including the end of the summer driving season, a relatively mild hurricane season in the Caribbean and reduced anxiety over world events,” said Auto Club spokesperson Carol Thorp. “On top of these indicators, oil is trading lower by about $10 per barrel compared to early summer, which also helps push retail prices lower.”
Statewide, the average price for September is $2.955, down from $3.225 in August. The lowest average price in the state is in Tracy, where regular is selling for $2.765. Blythe reports the state’s highest average price at $3.284.
Nationally, the average price is $2.613, down from $2.997 in August. The state with the highest gas price average is Hawaii at $3.278. Ohio has the lowest average price of $2.309.
