(LOS ANGELES, August 15, 2006) — The average price of a gallon of gasoline dipped slightly in most Southern California communities between July and August, according to the Automobile Club of Southern California monthly Fuel Gauge Report.
The Southern California August average price for regular self-serve gasoline is $3.271, down almost 3 cents from $3.306 on July 11. The Southern California record is $3.417, set on May 16.
"Gas prices have hovered up and down over the past four weeks rather than settling into a solid downward or upward pattern," said Auto Club spokesman Jeffrey Spring. "Supplies are adequate for demand, but anxiety over world events and the recent Alaska pipeline problems have combined to keep prices within 20 cents of their record levels."
Statewide, the average price for August is $3.225, down from $3.256 in July. The lowest average price in the state is in Marysville, where regular is selling for $3.028. Blythe reports the state's highest average price at $3.525.
Nationally, the average price is $2.997, up from $2.968 in July. The state with the highest gas price average is Hawaii at $3.368. South Carolina has the lowest average price of $2.822.
