Auto Club: Gas Prices Down 16 Cents in One Month

(LOS ANGELES, June 14, 2005)Southern California’s average price for regular gasoline declined 16 cents during the past month, marking the second month that prices have dropped, according to the Automobile Club of Southern California monthly Fuel Gauge Report.

The Southern California June average price for regular self-serve unleaded gasoline is $2.375, which compares to a May 17 average of $2.532. Despite being lower than a month ago, the June average is still the highest June average on record for the Auto Club’s Fuel Gauge Report, exceeding the 2004 average by nine-tenths of a penny.

“While gas prices have fallen to about the same level as they were last year, they are still higher than they were during the spring of 2004,” said Auto Club spokeswoman Carol Thorp. “Summer travelers shouldn’t expect to see prices increase unless the price of crude oil jumps. Similarly, they shouldn’t expect prices to drop much more unless crude oil drops below $50 per barrel.”

Statewide, the average price for June is $2.359, down from $2.531 in May. The lowest average price in California is in Marysville, where regular is selling for $2.18. Blythe continues to report the state’s highest average price at $2.66. Nationally, the average price is $2.13, down from $2.16 in May.
