(San Luis Obispo, April 7, 2005) — Julian D. Crocker, Ed.D., the San Luis Obispo County Superintendent of Schools, has been appointed to the Advisory Board of the Automobile Club of Southern California.
During his three-year term on the Advisory Board, Dr. Crocker will advise the Auto Club about policies, issues and activities in San Luis Obispo County that could affect the Southern California motoring public, including Auto Club members.
"We're pleased to have Dr. Crocker join our advisory board," said Darlene Lair, the Auto Club's San Luis Obispo district office manager. "His knowledge of the community and the challenges we face will help keep the Auto Club informed about key local issues."
A 27-year member of the Auto Club, Crocker was first elected County Superintendent of Schools in 1998. In 2002, he was re-elected for a four-year term. He heads the County Office of Education, an agency that performs a variety of leadership, oversight and direct service functions for ten local school districts that serve more than 36,000 students.
Prior to his current position, Crocker was Superintendent of Schools for the Paso Robles Joint Unified School District, the San Mateo Unified School District and the Palo Alto Unified School District.
Crocker, a U.S. Army veteran, is a native of Tennessee and earned his doctorate in education from Harvard University. He is a member of the Association of California School Administrators, the California County Superintendents Educational Services Association, and Phi Delta Kappa. He is also on the boards of the Children's Services Network, First 5 — Children and Families Commission, and the San Luis Obispo County Community Foundation. He and his wife, Donna, live in Cambria.
The Automobile Club of Southern California, the largest AAA affiliate, has been serving members since 1900.
