Gas Prices Reverse Course, Head Up Again

(LOS ANGELES – Oct. 13, 2011) –Gas prices only had a chance to drop by 12 to 15 cents over a four-week period before heading back upward over the past week, according to the Automobile Club of Southern California’s Weekend Gas Watch.

The average price of self-serve regular gasoline in the Los Angeles-Long Beach area is $3.845 per gallon, which is 2.9 cents higher than last week, 11.7 cents lower than last month, and 76 cents higher than last year. In San Diego, the price is $3.837, an increase of 3.1 cents from last week, 13.4 cents below last month, and 73 cents higher than last year. On the Central Coast, the average price is $3.896, up 3.9 cents from last week, 8.9 cents lower than a month ago, and 74 cents above last year. In the Inland Empire, the average per gallon price is $3.808, up 1.3 cents from last week, 13.2 cents lower than last month, and 72 cents more than last year.

“It’s discouraging to have prices head up again without them even reaching below $3.80 a gallon in most areas,” said Auto Club spokesperson Jeffrey Spring. “Oil industry analysts say that maintenance at refineries, coupled with increased imports, is keeping gasoline supplies tight in California at a time of year when we usually see prices decline.”

The Weekend Gas Watch monitors the average price of gasoline. As of noon on Oct. 13, averages are:
