Auto Club: Monthly Gas Prices Warm Up With Summer TemperaturesAugust 11, 2009 | Category: Monthly Fuel Prices Report
(LOS ANGELES, Aug. 11, 2009) —Gas prices have turned back up in recent weeks so nearly every community has an average over $3 per gallon, according to the Automobile Club of Southern California monthly Fuel Gauge Report.
The Southern California August average price for regular self-serve gasoline is $3.061, 16 cents higher than the July average of $2.90. This month’s average price is $1.05 lower than last year’s August price average of $4.114. The statewide average price of $3.052 is also 16 cents higher than the June average of $2.885. This month Chico, Marysville and Modesto in Northern California shared the state’s lowest gas price average at $2.970. Also for the third month in a row, Eureka has the highest price average in the state at $3.300. Nationally, the average price of $2.643 is 13 cents higher July average of $2.517. Hawaii still has the most expensive gasoline in the nation at $3.197 and South Carolina has the lowest state average price at $2.424. “Prices rose in the past month based on numerous reports of the economy showing signs of improvement, although demand for gasoline remained relatively flat,” said Auto Club spokesperson Jeffrey Spring. “We’re nearing the end of summer vacation driving, so we will see if that will help prices decline.” In Southern California, the averages for regular and premium grades of gasoline are listed below:
