Auto Club: Gas Prices Plummet
(LOS ANGELES, July 25, 2008) - Southern California gas price drops picked up a head of steam in their fifth straight week of decreases, plunging by about a dime on average over the past week, according to the Automobile Club of Southern California's Weekend Gas Watch.
The average price of self-serve regular gasoline in the Los Angeles-Long Beach area is $4.410 per gallon, which is 9.8 cents less than last week, 21 cents lower than last month, and $1.32 above last year. In San Diego, the price is $4.365, which is 10.8 cents lower than last week's price, 25 cents below last month, and $1.26 higher than last year. On the Central Coast, the average price is $4.506, down 9.8 cents from last week, 19 cents below last month, and $1.21 more than last year. In the Inland Empire, the average per gallon price is $4.381, 10.2 cents under last week, down 23 cents from last month, and $1.32 higher than last year.
"Gas prices are dropping not just in Southern California, but around the country," said Auto Club spokesperson Jeffrey Spring. "We've seen gas prices retreat back below $4 in more than half of the U.S. states."
