Auto Club: Gas Prices Cut In Half From June
(LOS ANGELES, Nov. 21, 2008) - The precipitous plunge in gas prices during recent weeks has slashed gas prices in half compared to their all-time records in June, according to the Automobile Club of Southern California's Weekend Gas Watch.
The average price of self-serve regular gasoline in the Los Angeles-Long Beach area is $2.327 per gallon, which is 19.1 cents less than last week, 97 cents lower than last month, and $1.07 under last year. In San Diego, the price is $2.265, which is 21.1 cents under last week's price, 99 cents below last month, and $1.15 lower than last year. On the Central Coast, the average price is $2.389, down 17.5 cents from last week, 98 cents below last month, and $1.10 below last year. In the Inland Empire, the average per gallon price is $2.277, which is 18.9 cents under last week, down 98 cents from last month, and $1.12 less than last year.
"Thanksgiving travelers can be grateful for these drastically lower gas prices, which have dropped to less than $2 a gallon at a few local stations," said Auto Club spokesperson Jeffrey Spring. "Although the Auto Club is projecting a 2.3 percent decrease in the number of Southern California travelers over last year, some people could make last-minute travel plans with these lower gas prices in mind."
The Weekend Gas Watch monitors the average price of gasoline as of 12:01 a.m. Nov. 21:
