Gas Prices Trickle Down After Flirting With $4

(LOS ANGELES – Sept. 22, 2011) –Prices at the pump moved down by a couple of pennies over the past week with most gas stations continuing to charge more than $3.90 a gallon for regular unleaded, according to the Automobile Club of Southern California’s Weekend Gas Watch.

The average price of self-serve regular gasoline in the Los Angeles-Long Beach area is $3.931 per gallon, which is 2.7 cents lower than last week, 23 cents higher than last month, and 98 cents higher than last year. In San Diego, the price is $3.927, a decrease of 3.3 cents from last week, 23 cents above last month, and 96 cents higher than last year. On the Central Coast, the average price is $3.974, down 1.1 cents from last week, 22 cents higher than a month ago, and 94 cents above last year. In the Inland Empire, the average per gallon price is $3.906, down 2.6 cents from last week, 23 cents higher than last month, and 96 cents more than last year.

“Oil prices have been quite volatile and plunged today along with stock prices, but there’s no way to know yet whether that will be significant or long-lasting enough to affect prices at the pump,” said Auto Club spokesperson Jeffrey Spring. “Consumers can save money on gas by carpooling and using their most fuel-efficient vehicle whenever possible, as well as aggressively seeking out the lowest-priced gasoline along their route by using online tools such as AAA.com/Triptik and the Triptik Mobile app for iPhone and Droid users.”

The Weekend Gas Watch monitors the average price of gasoline. As of noon on Sept. 22, averages are:
