Gas prices continued dropping for the third straight week and are now almost 10 cents lower than their highest levels of 2017, according to the Automobile Club of Southern California's Weekend Gas Watch. The retail statewide average is $3.08 a gallon for regular unleaded, three cents lower than a week ago.

The average price of self-serve regular gasoline in the Los Angeles-Long Beach area is $3.10 per gallon, which is four cents lower than last week, seven cents below last month, and 24 cents higher than last year. In San Diego, the average price is $3.07, which is three cents less than last week, six cents less than last month, and 26 cents more than this time last year. On the Central Coast, the average price is $3.08, which is down five cents from last week, eight cents lower than last month, and 25 cents higher than last year. In the Inland Empire, the average per-gallon price is $3.05, which is three cents less than last week, four cents less than last month, and 28 cents more than at this time last year.

“The underlying costs for Southern California gasoline have completely recovered from the effects of Hurricane Harvey, but retail price averages are still about five to 10 cents higher than on Aug. 23, the day before gas prices started climbing due to hurricane warnings,” said Auto Club spokesman Jeffrey Spring.  “Provided there are no other supply issues, prices are expected to continue dropping in coming days.”

The Weekend Gas Watch monitors the average price of gasoline. As of 9 a.m. on Oct. 5, averages are:
