After a couple of weeks of plateaus, local gas prices moved up by less than a penny a day over the past week, according to the Automobile Club of Southern California's Weekend Gas Watch. The retail state average is $2.752 a gallon for regular today, 6.5 cents more than last Thursday.

The average price of self-serve regular gasoline in the Los Angeles-Long Beach area is $2.789 per gallon, which is 5.5 cents higher than last week, 15 cents higher than last month, and 53 cents lower than last year. In San Diego, the average price is $2.763, which is four cents higher than last week, 10 cents higher than last month, and 50 cents less than this time last year. On the Central Coast, the average price is $2.789, 3.5 cents more than last week, 8.1 cents higher than a month ago, and 52 cents less than last year. In the Inland Empire, the average per-gallon price is $2.719, 4.6 cents more than last week, 13 cents more than last month, and 53 cents less than last year.

“Continued strong fuel demand in California combined with a couple of refinery issues earlier this month are the major factors behind the increase, which mainly occurred over the weekend,” said Auto Club spokesman Jeffrey Spring.  “However, in the last couple of days there has been very little price movement in most areas after wholesale prices dropped by nearly 20 cents, indicating supply issues may have been resolved.”

The Weekend Gas Watch monitors the average price of gasoline. As of 9 a.m. on Sept. 15, averages are:
