(LOS ANGELES, July 8, 2008) — For the fifth month in a row, gas prices posted increases throughout Southern California, according to the Automobile Club of Southern California monthly Fuel Gauge Report.

The Southern California July average price for regular self-serve gasoline set a new all-time record monthly high of $4.585 – up 11.5 cents from $4.470 on June 10, which was the previous all-time Southern California monthly record price. In July 2007, the monthly Fuel Gauge average for Southern California was $3.150 – $1.43 less than this month’s average price.

The statewide average price of $4.559 is down slightly from the latest all-time record price of $4.61 set on June 19, but 8.6 cents higher than last month’s average. The state’s lowest average price is in Tracy in Northern California, where regular sells for $4.450. Blythe has the state’s highest price at $4.829.

Nationally, the average price is $4.108, up 6.5 cents from $4.043 in June. Alaska has the highest state average price at $4.634 and South Carolina has the lowest state average price, at $3.906.

“Southern California has experienced month-to-month gas price increases for eight of the past ten months and during every Fuel Gauge Report in 2008 except for February,” said Auto Club spokesperson Jeffrey Spring. “Prices have been declining very slightly for two of the past four weeks in Southern California, and right now they seem to be in a holding pattern both locally and around the country.”
