Gas Prices Continue Slowly Upward

More gas stations are posting prices over $4 a gallon in Southern California as gas prices continue marching up, according to the Automobile Club of Southern California’s Weekend Gas Watch. Today’s retail statewide average is $3.91 a gallon for regular unleaded, which is two cents higher than last week.

The average price of self-serve regular gasoline in the Los Angeles-Long Beach area is $3.95 per gallon, which is two cents higher than last week, 20 cents higher than last month, and 86 cents higher than last year. In San Diego, the average price is $3.96, which is three cents higher than last week, 24 cents more than than last month, and 89 cents higher than last year.

On the Central Coast, the average price is $3.92, which is three cents higher than last week, 23 cents higher than last month, and 71 cents higher than last year.  In Riverside, the average per-gallon price is $3.89, which is two cents higher than last week, 22 cents higher than last month, and 93 cents higher than last year. In Bakersfield, the $3.81 average price is two cents higher than last week, 24 cents higher than last month, and 76 cents higher than a year ago today.

“Demand is continuing to rise as more Southern Californians get vaccinated and pandemic restrictions ease,” said Auto Club spokesman Jeffrey Spring. “With the increase in traffic back to pre-pandemic levels, the Auto Club is reminding drivers not to drive ‘intexticated.’”
