A weak dollar value is contributing toward continued increases in both crude oil and gasoline prices this week, according to the Automobile Club of Southern California’s Weekend Gas Watch. Today’s retail statewide average is $3.78 a gallon for regular unleaded, which is seven cents higher than last week.

The average price of self-serve regular gasoline in the Los Angeles-Long Beach area is $3.85 per gallon, which is eight cents higher than last week, 31 cents higher than last month, and 37 cents higher than last year. In San Diego, the average price is $3.83, which is eight cents higher than last week, 32 cents more than than last month, and 35 cents higher than last year.

On the Central Coast, the average price is $3.77, which is six cents higher than last week, 30 cents higher than last month, and 26 cents higher than last year.  In Riverside, the average per-gallon price is $3.77, which is seven cents higher than last week, 31 cents higher than last month, and 36 cents higher than last year. In Bakersfield, the $3.67 average price is six cents higher than last week, 29 cents higher than last month, and 20 cents higher than a year ago today.

“There are multiple factors for the pump price increases we’ve been experiencing. In addition to refinery utilization being at a record low, tightening gas supplies, more expensive summer-blend fuel in the marketplace, and a modest increase in demand for fuel as people drive more, the dollar’s value has dropped relative to other currencies, leading to higher crude oil prices,” said Auto Club spokesman Jeffrey Spring.

The Weekend Gas Watch monitors the average price of gasoline. As of 9 a.m. on March 11, averages are:
