Gas price averages moved up by just two or three cents in the last week and are now within a dime or less of $3.50 a gallon in many Southern California areas, according to the Automobile Club of Southern California's Weekend Gas Watch. The retail statewide average is $3.39 a gallon for regular unleaded, four cents higher than last Thursday.
The average price of self-serve regular gasoline in the Los Angeles-Long Beach area is $3.46 per gallon, which is three cents higher than last week, three cents higher than last month, and 40 cents higher than last year. In San Diego, the average price is $3.42, which is three cents more than last Thursday, two cents more than last month, and 38 cents higher than this time last year. On the Central Coast, the average price is $3.45, which is two cents higher than last week, seven cents higher than last month, and 34 cents higher than last year. In Riverside, the average per-gallon price is $3.38, which is two cents more than last week, one cent higher than last month, and 38 cents more than at this time last year.
“Gas prices in Southern California are now about a penny above their previous 2018 high levels of early February,” said Auto Club spokesman Jeffrey Spring. “Although gasoline inventories continue to be well above normal, extended refinery maintenance continues to put some upward pressure on prices.”
