A sixth straight week of falling gas prices is leaving holiday shoppers and travelers with some extra cash for their end-of-year expenses, according to the Automobile Club of Southern California's Weekend Gas Watch. The retail statewide average is $3.61 a gallon for regular unleaded, which is six cents lower than last week.

The average price of self-serve regular gasoline in the Los Angeles-Long Beach area is $3.66 per gallon, which is down five cents from last week, 32 cents lower than a month ago, and 20 cents higher than last year. In San Diego, the average price is $3.65, which is five cents less than last Thursday, 30 cents less than last month, and 23 cents higher than last year. On the Central Coast, the average price is $3.76, which is five cents lower than last week, 29 cents lower than last month, and 30 cents higher than last year. In Riverside, the average per-gallon price is $3.55, which is six cents lower than last week, 34 cents lower than last month, and 23 cents higher than last year. In San Bernardino, the $3.63 average price is five cents lower than last week, 31 cents lower than last month, and 25 cents higher than a year ago today.

“Southern California’s average gas prices have plummeted by 60 cents from their 2019 highest point reached in October, which is good news for the record 9 million residents that we project will take holiday vacations in the next couple of weeks,” said Auto Club spokesman Jeffrey Spring. “The Auto Club is reminding holiday travelers to take precautions to secure their homes before leaving on their road trips.”

The Weekend Gas Watch monitors the average price of gasoline. As of 9 a.m. on Dec. 19, averages are:
