After dropping by about a dime in most areas in June, Southern California gas prices changed very little during the past week as an all-time record number of July Fourth travelers hit the road, according to the Automobile Club of Southern California's Weekend Gas Watch. The retail statewide average is $3.66 a gallon for regular unleaded, unchanged from last Thursday.

The average price of self-serve regular gasoline in the Los Angeles-Long Beach area is $3.67 per gallon, which is unchanged from week, nine cents lower than last month, and 74 cents higher than last year. In San Diego, the average price is $3.66, which is one cent less than last Thursday, 10 cents less than last month, and 76 cents higher than this time last year. On the Central Coast, the average price is $3.74, which is one cent lower than last week, seven cents lower than last month, and 78 cents higher than last year. In Riverside, the average per-gallon price is $3.61, which is one cent lower than last week, nine cents lower than last month, and 75 cents more than at this time last year.

“Wholesale gas prices moved back up last week on concerns about inventory, which kept pump price changes at a minimum,” said Auto Club spokesman Jeffrey Spring. “With an all-time record number of 5.4 million Californians and 3.4 million Southern Californians taking to the roads and skies for the weeklong Independence Day holiday period, gasoline demand has been fairly strong.”

The Weekend Gas Watch monitors the average price of gasoline. As of 9 a.m. on July 5, averages are:
