A little over a week after refineries scaled back production of California-blend gasoline, prices are continuing to drop, according to the Automobile Club of Southern California's Weekend Gas Watch. The retail statewide average is $3.58 a gallon for regular unleaded, which is three cents lower than last week.

The average price of self-serve regular gasoline in the Los Angeles-Long Beach area is $3.58 per gallon, which is two cents lower than last week, 15 cents lower than last month, and four cents lower than last year. In San Diego, the average price is $3.59, which is two cents lower than last Thursday, 11 cents below last month, and the same as last year. On the Central Coast, the average price is $3.69, which is one cent less than last week, seven cents lower than last month, and one cent lower than last year. In Riverside, the average per-gallon price is $3.51, which is two cents lower than last week, 12 cents lower than last month, and the same as last year. In San Bernardino, the $3.55 average price is three cents lower than last Thursday, 13 cents lower than last month, and one cent higher than a year ago today.

"The California Energy Commission last week reported a drop in gasoline inventory after refineries scaled back California fuel production, but on Wednesday the commission reported that inventory is back up, so there is still reason for prices to continue decreasing,” said Auto Club spokesman Jeffrey Spring.

The Weekend Gas Watch monitors the average price of gasoline. As of 9 a.m. on Aug. 22, averages are:
