Gas prices throughout Southern California continued dropping in the New Year and are fast approaching the same levels as a year ago at this time, according to Automobile Club of Southern California's Weekend Gas Watch. The retail statewide average is $3.30 a gallon for regular unleaded, which is four cents lower from last week.

The average price of self-serve regular gasoline in the Los Angeles-Long Beach area is $3.32 per gallon, which is six cents lower than last week, 15 cents lower than last month, and seven cents higher than last year. In San Diego, the average price is $3.29, which is four cents lower than last Thursday, 16 cents lower than last month, and eight cents higher than this time last year. On the Central Coast, the average price is $3.36, which is five cents lower than last week, 11 cents lower than last month, and 14 cents higher than last year. In Riverside, the average per-gallon price is $3.20, which is five cents lower than last week, 15 cents lower than last month, and two cents more than at this time last year.

“Lower-than-expected demand continued the downward pressure on gas prices in the last week,” said Auto Club spokesman Jeffrey Spring. “More Southern California drivers should now easily be able to pay less than $3 a gallon for regular unleaded. The Auto Club recommends using a virtual shopping tool like AAA Mobile to ensure you pay the cheapest price near you.”

The Weekend Gas Watch monitors the average price of gasoline. As of 9 a.m. on Jan. 10, averages are:
