For only the second time this year, gas prices jumped by double digits in the last week in most Southern California cities, according to the Automobile Club of Southern California's Weekend Gas Watch. The retail statewide average is $3.78 a gallon for regular unleaded, which is 10 cents higher than last week.

The average price of self-serve regular gasoline in the Los Angeles-Long Beach area is $3.86 per gallon, which is up 12 cents from last week, 20 cents higher than last month, and 75 cents higher than last year. In San Diego, the average price is $3.81, which is 11 cents higher than last Thursday, 18 cents higher than last month, and 74 cents higher than this time last year. On the Central Coast, the average price is $3.84, which is 11 cents higher than week, 13 cents higher than last month, and 74 cents higher than last year. In Riverside, the average per-gallon price is $3.75, which is 14 cents higher than last week, 21 cents higher than last month, and 71 cents more than at this time last year.

“Oil prices and oil futures have risen sharply while continued issues at refineries in El Segundo and Los Angeles intensified anxieties about local gasoline supplies, pushing our gas prices up to the highest levels since August 2015,” said Auto Club spokesman Jeffrey Spring. “However, after reports earlier this week that California refinery utilization is actually higher than previous weeks, wholesale Los Angeles gasoline prices have dropped, possibly indicating that pump price increases won’t continue much longer.”

The last time local gas prices posted a double-digit weekly increase was in early February of this year.

The Weekend Gas Watch monitors the average price of gasoline. As of 9 a.m. on Oct. 4, averages are:
