Auto Club: Monthly Gas Prices Mixed

(LOS ANGELES, Dec. 12, 2006) — Gasoline prices seemed to have found some equilibrium during the past month as some cities saw slight increases and others saw slight decreases, according to the Automobile Club of Southern California monthly Fuel Gauge Report. The Southern California average showed about a two-penny gain between November and December.

The Southern California December average price for regular self-serve gasoline is $2.519 compared to $2.498, November 14. Retail prices are nearly 90 cents below the record high of $3.417, set on May 16.

“Oil prices seem to be holding at around $60 per barrel, and supplies in the state have been steady, so we have achieved some level of consistency in the past couple of weeks,? said Auto Club spokesperson Carol Thorp. ?OPEC ministers will meet Thursday to determine how the oil producers will manage production in the face of forecasted weaker international demand.”

Statewide, the average price for December is $2.507, up from $2.475 in November. The lowest average price in the state is in La Habra, where regular is selling for $2.300, down from $2.320. Santa Barbara reports the state?s highest average price at $2.794, up just four-tenths of a penny.

Nationally, the average price is $2.292, up from $2.229 in November. The state with the highest gas price average is Hawaii at $2.859. Three other states have higher averages than California this month ? Nevada, Oregon and Washington. Oklahoma has the lowest average price of $2.155.
