Motorists Can Get Smog Test, Registration Stickers at Auto Club Test-Only Smog Center in Costa Mesa

(Costa Mesa, June 21, 2005) — Motorists who want the convenience of getting their vehicle smog-tested and receiving their vehicle registration stickers at the same time can bring their vehicle to the Automobile Club of Southern California's Test-Only Smog Center in Costa Mesa.

The Auto Club offers smog "test only" service at its center, 3350 Harbor Blvd. The center provides members and the public all forms of smog check inspection and certification services.

Smog checks are available to Auto Club members for $55. Cost to the general public is $65 for most vehicles. Smog check certificates are included in the price. One free re-test within 30 days is included in the price for vehicles that fail. Appointments are not necessary and motorists may drop in anytime from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday for a smog check. The center's phone number is 714-424-7805.

Instant annual license plate registration stickers for vehicles passing the smog test are among the comprehensive services for members who also can conveniently handle many DMV transactions at the Auto Club's office located next door to the center. In addition, vehicle transfer of ownership, registration renewals and specialized license plate orders are available to members at all Auto Club offices. Non-members take the smog inspection report and mail it into the Dept. of Motor Vehicles to receive a registration sticker.

While the Auto Club offers smog inspections at the Test-Only Smog Center, it doesn't perform repairs. However, to help consumers, a print out of the vehicle's emissions test results is given to the owner after the test is completed. The owner may then take the vehicle to any licensed smog test and repair facility, including licensed facilities within the Auto Club's approved auto repair program.

"Our members trust our thoroughness and appreciate one-stop convenience," said the Auto Club's Approved Auto Repair Operations Manager Richard Kretsch. "The Test-Only Smog Center is convenient for South Coast Metro area commuters who want to get a smog test done during the work week."

The Auto Club has historically helped motorists with DMV transactions. Beginning in 1911, the DMV authorized the Auto Club to register motor vehicles with the state.
